Community mural for Wauchope

A new community mural by local artist Jo Davidson, incorporating contributions from community members of all ages, is now on show on the Bransdon Street side of Wauchope IGA.

The artwork was created at the recent “Art in the Park” event as part of the Creative Wauchope Festival, with support through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Funding from both the Commonwealth and NSW State Governments. It features a variety of recognisable local flora and fauna that call the Mid North Coast home.

“The mural represents the local Hastings Hinterland life. It includes a few motorcyclists, which brings attention to the Motorcycle Friendly status of our Hinterland communities,” Lisa McPherson, Wauchope Chamber Executive Officer said.

The project, which officially opened on Tuesday 5 July at 10am, was achieved through a collaboration of local people and organisations including Hastings Co-op, Wauchope Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Wauchope Men’s shed, artist Jo Davidson and Chris Gill of Signs for Business who donated the panels.

“The mural brings color and vibrancy to Wauchope and adds to the town’s appeal to put feet on the street. It’s a great example of community engagement and inclusion and we encourage people to pop down to see the new work in place and see how many different animals and plants they can spot hiding within the mural,” Lisa McPherson said.

“Hastings Co-op enjoys these collaborative partnerships with our local community, and we would like to thank the Wauchope Chamber and Jo Davidson for all of the work in helping make our town more vibrant,” Business and Community Development Manager Tim Walker said.
